CITY KIDS

City Kids Volunteer Application and Screening Policy

    Purpose of the Application/Policy
Every applicant for CityKids must be familiar with the content of this application and satisfactorily complete our screening procedures. This application and policy is motivated by several concerns:

    1. We believe the most important part of our church is to continually lead our children, members, visitors, and community to Jesus Christ
    2. Recognizing God’s tender love and concern for children/youth (see Luke 18:16), we want to do all that we can to protect our children and youth from any kind of mistreatment including physical or sexual abuse.
    3. Our church is not immune to the effects of sin, and it would be presumptuous for us to assume that this problem could never occur in our body. Therefore, we will be diligent with regard to the children God has placed under our care. Additionally, we always strive to partner with our volunteers in their growth in Christ. As such, we will be diligent to identify any sin within our volunteers to assist them in being reconciled to Christ.
    4. We want to protect our City Kids volunteers from being suspected or falsely accused of wrongful behavior toward a child or youth.
    5. We want to protect our church from the scandal and trauma that an accident of abuse could bring upon our congregation.

    The Policy
    1. All applicants/volunteers desiring to work with children 12th grade and under (including nursery) must have completed applications for children’s ministry on file in the church office.
    2. All applicants are required to submit a reference from people who are not relatives or employees.
    3. All applicants will be interviewed by a CityKids leader.
    4. After applicants have been approved and assigned a ministry position, they will be asked to keep their ministry obligation.

    The Screening Process
We view the screening process as an opportunity to promote openness and honesty, to demonstrate mutual submission, and to get to know one another better. By learning more about each other’s gifts, abilities, and ministry goals, we can better encourage our volunteers in their ministry to the children.

    1. Background Investigations are conducted on all volunteers and staff positions.
    2. Confidentiality: All information acquired during the screening process is treated as confidential and will not be disclosed to others outside the immediate pastoral staff involved in the screening process unless the elder/pastor in charge of screening or the elder board deems that limited disclosure is necessary to protect a young person from possible harm.
    3. Final Approval to minister to children in CityKids will be determined by a church leader responsible for CityKids.

    City Kids Volunteer Commitment

I recognize that as a Christian it is both my privilege and my responsibility to be under the authority of God and His Word. I affirm and promise, through the Holy Spirit’s enablement and God helping me, to abide by the following biblical principles as markers for my life and for my involvement in City Kids at City Life.

    PRINCIPLE #1: SPIRITUAL GROWTH

➢ To strive toward growth in faith and to keep Jesus Christ at the center of my life in order to “walk in a manner worthy of the calling” and thus be an example in “speech, conduct, in love, in faith, and in purity” to the children I lead.

    PRINCIPLE #2: DILIGENCE & FAITHFULNESS

➢ To work diligently in my ministry, not looking for the praise of men but working only to please Jesus; knowing that “my labor is not in vain in the Lord” and that one day I hear the words “well done good and faithful servant, enter into my rest.”

    PRINCIPLE #3: TEAMWORK

➢ To resist envying the gifts of another or comparing myself to another and to concentrate on using my gifts to enhance the ministry to children and to encourage verbally brothers and sisters in their labors for the kingdom knowing that we are all working to the same end in obeying God

If there should arise conflict with another, to choose either to let it roll off my back or to confront according to the guidelines found in Matthew 18:15-17.

    1. To go to my brother/sister alone in humility and love to reconcile our difference or to exhort my brother, always with the goal of reconciliation.
    2. If the situation warrants further attention, to bring one or two others with me if my initial attempt is rejected.
    3. If the situation has not be resolved, and it should be pursued further, to then bring it to the attention of an CityKids leader.
    4. If it is still not resolved, to place the responsibility of further action in the hands of the CityKids leaders.
PRINCIPLE #4: MAINTAIN AN UNHINDERED ENVIRONMENT FOR CHILDREN

➢ To refrain from inappropriate behavior and avoid any kind of evil in all aspects of my life.
